EarthScope Announcements

February 12, 2018 Last Date for Proposals for Final NSF EarthScope Funding Cycle

This National Science Foundation (NSF) solicitation primarily encourages submission of proposals that integrate and synthesize major outcomes of EarthScope research and education and outreach efforts with the goal of elucidating and documenting the advances the EarthScope program has made since its inception. This Program also accepts single investigator or collaborative proposals to conduct scientific research and/or education and outreach activities within North America that:

1. Make use of capabilities provided through, and/or data and/or models derived from, GAGE (Geodesy Advancing Geosciences and EarthScope), SAGE (Seismological Facilities for the Advancement of Geosciences and EarthScope), and/or SAFOD (San Andreas Fault Observatory at Depth);

2. Further the scientific and educational goals of EarthScope, as described in the 2010 EarthScope Science Plan and/or EarthScope Education and Outreach Implementation Plan; and

3. Do not make use of or require access to the SAFOD Main Hole or SAFOD Pilot Hole.

For details and contact information visit the NSF website.

Education and Outreach Impacts Survey—Please Complete by February 15

The EarthScope Education and Outreach Subcommittee created a survey to gauge the impact of EarthScope Education and Outreach efforts across NSF-funded EarthScope projects. We request that Principal Investigators or Co-PIs of EarthScope projects take a few minutes to complete the online survey by February 15

The committee thanks you in advance for your participation!

Science Nuggets—Put Your Research On The Map

The EarthScope National Office is highlighting the scientific achievements of the EarthScope program. An interactive online map will feature summaries of EarthScope projects to engage both scientific and broader audiences. Want to see your research included when we launch the map? Send us your project information by February 15 through the online submission form.

If you have questions or would like more information, contact EarthScope National Office science writer Beth Grassi at bagrassi@alaska.edu or 907-474-7094.

Humans of EarthScope

Learn about the person behind the science on our website “Humans of EarthScope,” which tells the stories of how scientists using the array of EarthScope data were drawn to their fields of research. Common themes: the allure of field work and the wonder of deep time.

Visualization Challenge Returns in 2018

There will be a new round of Visualizing EarthScope Science for a broader audience (VESS) this year! The deadline will be next fall, but stay tuned for more updates in the spring. Take a look at last year’s entries to get inspired for your entry this round.
